The Born rule and its interpretation

چکیده
The Born rule provides a link between the mathematical formalism of quantum theory and experiment, and as such is almost single-handedly responsible for practically all predictions of quantum physics. In the history of science, on a par with the Heisenberg uncertainty relations (→ indeterminacy relations) the Born rule is often seen as a turning point where indeterminism entered fundamental physics. For these two reasons, its importance for the practice and philosophy of science cannot be overestimated.

Everett and the Born Rule
During the last ten years or so, derivations of the Born rule based on decision theory have been proposed and developed, and it is claimed that these are valid in the context of the Everett interpretation. This claim is critically assessed and it is shown that one of its key assumptions is a natural consequence of the principles underlying the Copenhagen interpretation, but constitutes a major ...
متن کاملMMDT: Multi-Objective Memetic Rule Learning from Decision Tree
In this article, a Multi-Objective Memetic Algorithm (MA) for rule learning is proposed. Prediction accuracy and interpretation are two measures that conflict with each other. In this approach, we consider accuracy and interpretation of rules sets. Additionally, individual classifiers face other problems such as huge sizes, high dimensionality and imbalance classes’ distribution data sets. This...
متن کاملDecision-based Probabilities in the Everett Interpretation: Comments on Wallace and Greaves∗
It is often objected that the Everett interpretation of QM cannot make adequate sense of quantum probabilities, in one or both of two senses: either it cannot make sense of probability at all, or cannot explain why probability should be governed by the Born rule. David Deutsch has attempted to meet these objections. He argues not only that rational decision under uncertainty makes sense in the ...
متن کاملکاربرد عرف در مقام تفسیر در حقوق قضایی مبتنی بر مبانی فقه امامیه
Abstract: The custom Both orally and practically is the usual habit and behavior of humans. Cstom in any legal school of thought can play a significant role in three area: creating legal rules interpretation of legal rules and enforcement of legal rules (particularly, based on the legal positivism foundations) But the main question is that the reference to custom in order to interpretation sho...
متن کامل2 00 8 Macroscopic observables and the Born rule I . Long run frequencies
We clarify the role of the Born rule in the Copenhagen Interpretation of quantum mechanics by deriving it from Bohr's doctrine of classical concepts, translated into the following mathematical statement: a quantum system described by a noncommutative C *-algebra of observables is empirically accessible only through associated commutative C *-algebras. The Born probabilities emerge as the relati...
